White Tank Mountain Regional Park

White Tank Mountain Regional Park, located 25 miles west of Phoenix in Maricopa County, Arizona, contains 11 archaeological sites attributed to the Hohokam, occupied between AD 500 and 1100. These include seven villages ranging from 1 to 75 acres, a rock shelter, and numerous petroglyph panels. The majority of petroglyphs were created by the earlier Western Archaic culture around 2000 BC, featuring abstract lines, circles, and gridiron patterns. Hohokam petroglyphs depict animal forms and complex designs. The largest concentration of rock art is at Petroglyph Plaza along Waterfall Canyon Trail.
