The Palatki Heritage Site is located in the Coconino National Forest near Sedona, Arizona. Named "red house" in the Hopi language, it features Sinagua cliff dwellings built into red sandstone alcoves from AD 1100 to 1400, representing the largest cliff dwellings in the Red Rock Country. The site also contains pictographs and petroglyphs, some from the Archaic period estimated at 3,000 to 6,000 years old, predating the cliff dwellings by millennia. First documented in 1895 by Smithsonian archaeologist Dr. Jesse Walter Fewkes, some rock art designs depict solar and lunar alignments with the solstices.
