Aigai Ancient City

An ancient Greek city in Aeolis near modern Yuntdagi Koseler, Manisa Province, Turkey, founded in the late 8th century BC. Listed by Herodotus and Strabo as a member of the Aeolian dodecapolis, it housed an important sanctuary of Apollo. Aigai flourished under the Attalid dynasty of Pergamon (3rd-2nd century BC), receiving monumental public buildings in Pergamene style. Excavations since 2004 have uncovered a macellum (meat market), baths with a Poseidon mosaic, and extensive urban remains.
