Aigai Ancient City

An ancient Greek city in Aeolis near modern Yuntdagi Koseler, Manisa Province, Turkey [1]. Listed by Herodotus and Strabo as a member of the Aeolian dodecapolis, it housed an important sanctuary of Apollo [1] [2]. Aigai flourished under the Attalid dynasty of Pergamon (3rd-2nd century BC) [1]. Excavations since 2004 have uncovered a macellum (meat market), baths with a Poseidon mosaic, and extensive urban remains [1].
