Alexandria Troas was founded by Antigonus and renamed by Lysimachus in 301 BC in honor of Alexander the Great [1] [2]. Located near modern Dalyan in Turkey's Canakkale Province, the city measured approximately 2500 x 1700 meters and may have reached a population of 100,000 [1] [2]. Declared a free city in 188 BC, it was visited by the apostle Paul and considered by Constantine as a potential new capital [1] [2]. Ruins include a theater, baths, an odeon, and a gymnasium [1] [2].
