Ekornavallen

Ekornavallen is an ancient burial ground in Falkoping Municipality, Sweden, used continuously for over 4,000 years from the Stone Age (c. 3300 BC) through the Viking era (c. 1000 AD). The site contains four Neolithic passage graves, including the prominent Girommen tomb with sandstone slab chambers, a gallery grave, cairns, stone circles, twelve standing stones, and a distinctive triangular stone setting. Excavations of Girommen in the 1940s uncovered fragments of tools, pottery, and amber beads interpreted as grave offerings. The site is considered very important for the study of prehistoric Scandinavia, demonstrating the evolution from communal to hierarchical burial practices across millennia.
