Stenehed

Stenehed is an Iron Age grave field dating to 600-400 BC, located southwest of Hallevadsholm in Munkedal Municipality, Sweden. The site contains approximately 45 graves, a stone circle, a stone ship, and a row of menhirs -- originally eleven or twelve, with nine surviving today, the tallest reaching 3.3 metres. The menhirs are arranged by height in a deliberate sequence. In 1980, astronomer Curt Roslund proposed that the row forms an astronomical calendar analogous to Stonehenge, earning the site the nickname 'the Swedish Stonehenge'. Local legend associates the graves with King Rane and Queen Hud.
