Roman Theatre, Zaragoza

Constructed during the reigns of Tiberius (14-37 AD) and Claudius (41-54 AD) in the Roman colony of Caesaraugusta, this theatre followed the model of the Theatre of Marcellus in Rome. With a capacity of 6,000 spectators and an area of 7,000 square metres, it is considered the largest Roman theatre discovered in Spain. Active until the 3rd century, its stone was later repurposed for walls and buildings before being forgotten under new housing. Rediscovered in 1973 through archaeological excavations, it was declared a Bien de Interes Cultural in 2001 and is now preserved within the Caesaraugusta Theatre Museum.
