Citânia de Santa Luzia

The Citânia de Santa Luzia is a fortified Castro culture settlement in Areosa, Viana do Castelo, Portugal, dating from the Iron Age with continued Roman-period occupation[1]. First excavated in 1876 by Joaquim Possidonio Narciso da Silva, only about one third of its structures have been uncovered[1]. The remaining portion lies beneath or was destroyed during construction of nearby hotels, churches, and roads[1]. A medieval chapel dedicated to Saint Lucy once marked the site until 1926, when it was demolished to make way for a new church designed by Miguel Ventura Terra[1].
