The Pernil Alto archaeological site is located in the Rio Grande District of Palpa province in Peru's Ica Region. Excavations revealed that inhabitants adopted agriculture between 3800 BCE and 3000 BCE, with farming becoming the main source of subsistence around 3300 BCE. Radiocarbon dates establish Pernil Alto as the oldest known inland and sedentary agricultural village in the Central Andes of Peru and Bolivia[1].
