Puka Urqu, Ayacucho

Puka Urqu (Quechua for "red mountain") is a mountaintop archaeological site at 3,800 m elevation in the Lucanas Province of Ayacucho. The pre-Incan settlement features stone structures spread across the terrain with geometric patterns and architectural elements demonstrating advanced construction techniques. Excavations have revealed artifacts indicating specialized craftsmen and complex social hierarchies. The site lies northwest of the archaeological site of Nawpallaqta.
