Maria Reiche Museum

The Maria Reiche Museum is located on the Panamericana Sur at Km 425 in the Pampas of San Jose, about 11 km north of Nazca, Peru. It occupies the former home of Dr. Maria Reiche, a German-born mathematician who devoted over 50 years to studying and conserving the Nazca Lines. After her death in 1998 at age 95, the house was converted into a museum displaying her research materials, maps, blueprints, and archaeological finds. A waxwork of Reiche sits at her workspace, and she is buried on the grounds. The Nazca Lines she helped protect were designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994.
