Mawk'allaqta, Espinar

Mawk'allaqta (originally called Hanq'oqawa) is a pre-Inca and Inca archaeological site in Espinar Province, Cusco Region, Peru, situated on the banks of the Apurimac River within the Virginniyoc canyon at approximately 3,360 metres elevation. It served as the ancient capital of the K'ana people before Wari and later Inca conquest. The site features chullpas (funerary towers) of various sizes built from sillar stone blocks with mud mortar, along with kallankas, terraced platforms, ceremonial fountains, water channels, plazas, and storage structures. Architectural highlights include double-frame doors and two-story buildings reflecting multiple periods of construction.
