Inka Tampu, Vilcabamba

An Inca archaeological site in Peru's Cusco Region, La Convencion Province, Vilcabamba District, situated atop a mountain also named Inka Tampu. The name means "Inca inn" in Quechua, indicating its role as a tambo along the Inca road network, providing rest, storage, and communications infrastructure. The Vilcabamba region holds special historical significance as the last refuge of the Neo-Inca state (1536-1572), where Manco Inca and his successors maintained autonomous rule after retreating from the Spanish conquest of Cusco.
