Inka Mach'ay, Peru

An Inca-period archaeological site in Peru's Huancavelica Region, Tayacaja Province, Nahuimpuquio District. The name combines Quechua words for "Inca" and "cave" (mach'ay), reflecting the site's integration of natural caves with stone constructions at high mountain elevation. The complex includes carefully built chambers and terraces on sloped terrain, where Inca priests conducted religious ceremonies and agricultural rituals. Excavations have uncovered pottery fragments and tool remains providing evidence of both residential and ceremonial use.
