Uchkus Inkañan

Uchkus Inkanan is an archaeological complex at 3,800 m elevation in the Yauli District of Huancavelica, Peru, on the left bank of the Ichu River. Occupation dates from 1200 BC under early pastoralists dependent on the Chavinoide center at Atalla, reaching peak importance during the Anccara Lordship (1200-1440 AD). The complex includes three sectors: Qorimina with experimental agricultural terraces and canal systems, an astronomical observatory with a central plaza and four cardinal gates designed for measuring solstices, and Chuncana with circular structures and water-filled channels possibly used for celestial observation.
