Marayniyoq

Marayniyoq is a Middle Horizon Wari archaeological site in the Ayacucho Valley, Peru, located at the border of Huanta and Huamanga provinces in the Vega Pampa plain. Excavations uncovered a series of immense cut stones with hollow depressions used for grinding, along with rocker grinders and large ceramic vessels, indicating the site functioned as a specialized grain-processing facility. Evidence suggests Marayniyoq was dedicated to grinding malted corn (qora) for chicha beer production, representing a significant industrial operation within the broader Wari civilization that flourished c. 500-1000 AD.
