Bandurria, Peru

A major Late Preceramic archaeological site on the Huaura River near Huacho, Peru, dated to approximately 3200 BCE, making it one of the oldest monumental sites in the Americas and potentially older than Caral. The site is divided into a domestic sector with two types of structures -- quadrangular stone buildings with ceremonial platforms and smaller oval huts of perishable materials -- and a monumental sector featuring a sunken circular plaza and stairways similar to Caral. Bandurria represents one of the earliest coastal fishing settlements with ceremonial stone architecture.
