Aspero

Late Preceramic coastal settlement at the mouth of the Supe River in Peru, occupied from roughly 3700 to 1800 BC. Part of the Caral-Supe (Norte Chico) civilization, the 14-hectare site contains seventeen platform mounds, including the Huaca de los Idolos where unbaked clay figurines were found as dedicatory offerings. It likely served as the maritime fishery for inland Caral, 25 km upriver, and inspired the "Maritime Foundations of Andean Civilization" hypothesis.
