Markapukyu

Markapukyu is a pre-Columbian archaeological settlement in the Pasco Region of Peru, located at 3,787 metres (12,425 ft) above sea level in the Yarusyacán District of Pasco Province[1]. Dating to the Early Horizon period (1–500 AD), the site represents an ancient Andean settlement whose name combines the Quechua words marka meaning 'village' or 'storey' and pukyu meaning 'spring of water'[1]. The settlement sits high in the Peruvian Andes, demonstrating the adaptability of early Andean cultures to high-altitude environments during the first millennium AD[1].
