A major Purepecha urban settlement in the Lake Patzcuaro Basin of Michoacan, Mexico, spanning roughly AD 900 to 1350. LiDAR mapping revealed over 40,000 building foundations across 26 square kilometers, comparable in architectural density to modern Manhattan. The city featured pyramids, temples, road systems, ball courts, and agricultural gardens arranged in eight distinct zones. At its peak it housed over 100,000 people, making it the largest known city in western Mexico during this period.
