Aglaureion

The largest cave sanctuary on the Acropolis of Athens, with a 14-meter-wide entrance and 22-meter depth, dedicated to Aglauros, daughter of the mythical King Cecrops. It served as the site where Athenian ephebes swore their military oaths and received weapons. According to Herodotus, the Persians used this sanctuary to breach the Acropolis in 480 BC. Its location was confirmed in 1980 when a stele honoring the priestess Timokrite (c. 247 BC) was found on the eastern slope.
