Rouffignac Cave

Rouffignac Cave, known as the "Cave of the Hundred Mammoths," is located in the Dordogne department of France and contains over 250 engravings and paintings dating to approximately 13,000 years ago during the Magdalenian period. The cave features 158 mammoth depictions, comprising roughly 30% of all mammoths in Paleolithic art worldwide. The Grand Plafond ceiling gathers 66 animals in a single composition. Extending over 8 km, it is one of Europe's largest decorated caves. Classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979, visitors explore via electric train to preserve the artwork.
