Wychbury Ring

Wychbury Ring is an Iron Age hillfort on Wychbury Hill near Hagley, Stourbridge, on the West Midlands-Worcestershire border. Covering 2.93 hectares, it measures 250m east-west by 150m north-south, with two concentric ramparts and ditches. The inner rampart is 16-20m wide and rises 2.6m high; the outer rampart is 10m wide and up to 3m high, with fortified entrances at the east and southwest. The first excavation in 1884 by E.B. Marten yielded bronze rings and an Early Iron Age terret. A silver coin of Augustus was found outside the east gate in 1991, and a 5.5-acre annexe with an Iron Age field system was identified in 1924.
