British Camp

British Camp is a major Iron Age hillfort on Herefordshire Beacon (338 m) in the Malvern Hills, first constructed around the 2nd century BC and expanded in multiple phases to enclose approximately 44 acres within a 2,100 m perimeter of concentric earthworks often likened to a giant wedding cake. Up to 118 hut circles have been identified, suggesting a population of some 4,000 before the Roman conquest. A Norman ringwork castle was later built within the Iron Age defences, possibly by Earl Harold Godwinson before 1066. The fort is a Scheduled Ancient Monument managed by the Malvern Hills Conservators.
