Durrington Walls

Durrington Walls is a large Neolithic settlement and henge enclosure in the Stonehenge World Heritage Site, Wiltshire, lying 3.2 km northeast of Stonehenge. The henge measures approximately 500 metres in diameter, making it the second-largest Late Neolithic palisaded enclosure in the UK. Excavations in 2005-2006 uncovered seven houses and a 30-metre-wide road connecting the site to the River Avon, with pottery and animal bones suggesting the site served feasting rather than funerary purposes. In 2020, geophysical survey revealed a circuit of massive Neolithic shafts, each 10 metres wide and 5 metres deep, forming a 2-kilometre pattern encircling the monument -- potentially Britain's largest prehistoric structure.
