Vestibule, Split

The Vestibule is a circular entrance hall within Diocletian's Palace in Split, built in the early 4th century AD as the formal passage from the Peristyle courtyard to the emperor's private apartments. Measuring 12 metres in diameter and 17 metres in height, it was once crowned by a dome decorated with colorful mosaics and lined with semicircular niches housing statues. The partially collapsed dome now creates an open oculus to the sky, and the space is renowned for its outstanding acoustics, frequently hosting traditional Dalmatian klapa singing.
