Nohmul

Nohmul is a pre-Columbian Maya archaeological site in northern Belize, on the eastern Yucatán Peninsula. The name translates as 'great mound' in Yucatec Maya [1]. It represents the most important Maya site in northern Belize [1]. The complex features a large pyramid built around 250 BC, standing approximately 17 meters (56 ft) tall with a footprint of roughly 50 x 52 meters [1]. Tragically, most of the pyramid was destroyed in May 2013 when contractors demolished it to extract rocks and gravel for road construction, leaving only the core structure remaining [1].
