Cuello

Cuello is a Maya archaeological site in northern Belize, representing a farming village with a long occupational history dating to around 1200 BC [1]. Its inhabitants lived in pole-and-thatch houses built on low plaster-coated platforms, arranged in residential groups around central patios [1]. The site features the remains of a steam bath dating to approximately 900 BC, making it the oldest steam bath found in the Maya lowlands [1]. Human burials associated with residential structures lack grave goods from the earliest periods, but from 900 BC onwards, they were accompanied by ceramic vessel offerings [1].
