Kultepe-2

Kultepe-2 is an Early and Middle Bronze Age settlement in Nakhchivan, Azerbaijan, located about 1.5 km north of the related Kultepe-1 site on the west bank of the Nakhchivanchay River. The site spans nearly 10 hectares and was first investigated by Osman Abibullaev in 1962. Its earliest layers relate to the Kura-Araxes culture (4th-3rd millennium BC), while during the Middle Bronze Age it developed into an urban-type settlement covering 3 hectares of living space. Massive fortress walls 2 meters wide, built on mud-mounted stonework, surrounded the residence, and both monochrome and polychrome pottery with geometric and figurative designs were found.
