Teysheba

Odzaberd, originally named Teyseba after the Urartian thunder god, is a fortress situated on a hill east of Tsovinar at the southeast corner of Lake Sevan in Armenia's Gegharkunik Province. Founded by Urartian king Rusa I between 735 and 713 BC, it is considered the best-preserved Urartian fortification in the Sevan basin. Recent Armenian-Italian excavations beginning in 2015 uncovered semi-cyclopean construction, multiple clay floors, pottery, and a nearby necropolis spanning the 10th to 6th centuries BC. In the medieval period it was renamed Odzaberd ("Serpent's Fortress") after a local lord destroyed its defences.
