Karchaghbyur

A village in the Vardenis Municipality of Gegharkunik province, Armenia, previously known as Gedakbulag. Since 1975, archaeologists have been excavating a Persian and Hellenistic period walled settlement on a promontory jutting into Lake Sevan. The fortified site was occupied from the 4th to the 1st century BC and was abandoned at the end of the 1st century BC, with mass burials from that final period. Excavations have yielded a diverse range of artifacts, including early Bronze Age graves containing bull heads, now housed in the History Museum of Armenia in Yerevan.
