Baelo Claudia was an ancient Roman town in Hispania, situated on the shore of the Strait of Gibraltar, 22 km outside modern Tarifa in southern Spain [1]. Originally a fishing village and trading hub settled approximately 2,000 years ago, it flourished as a prosperous city during Emperor Claudius's reign before declining due to earthquakes and eventual abandonment by the 6th century [1].
