Lebrija

Lebrija is an ancient settlement in the Province of Seville, Andalusia, with human presence dating to the Bronze Age. Originally a port on the shores of the Lacus Ligustinus, it was founded as Nebritza by the Phoenicians, renamed Nebrissa during Tartessian times, called Nebrixa by the Romans, and Nebrisa by the Arabs before the Spanish reconquest in 1249. The city hosts a Centro de Interpretacion Lebrija Tartesica highlighting its significant Tartessian heritage. Lebrija is also the birthplace of Renaissance humanist Elio Antonio de Nebrija, author of the first Castilian grammar.
