Axura Nekropolises

An Iron Age necropolis complex at the eastern end of Axura village in Azerbaijan's Sharur district. The surviving area of Necropolis I measures 150 x 100 m, though part was washed away by Axurachay floodwaters. Headstones are made of giant conical stones with 20-25 cm diameter holes in their tapered upper portions. Excavated earthen graves 1.5 m deep contained male skeletons but no grave goods.
