The Royal Kurgan (Tsarskyi Kurgan) is a monumental 4th-century BC burial mound near Kerch in eastern Crimea, believed to be the tomb of Bosporan King Leukon I (r. 389-349 BC). Standing nearly 20 metres high with a 250-metre base perimeter, it features a square burial chamber that transitions via corbelled dome technique to a height of 8.84 metres, preceded by a 36-metre-long limestone dromos. Excavated between 1833 and 1837, only remnants of a wooden sarcophagus were found, suggesting ancient looting. Early Christian crosses carved on the walls indicate later use as a sanctuary.
