Melitopol Kurgan

Melitopol kurgan was a Scythian burial mound (kurgan) of the 4th century BCE (340–320 BCE), located in the city of Melitopol, Ukraine, on Skifska Street near the railway station [1]. The mound had been partially looted prior to archaeological investigation [1]. It was excavated in 1954 during a rescue operation conducted ahead of a real estate development project [1]. The excavation was initially carried out by staff of the Melitopol Museum of Local History, followed by an expedition from the Institute of Archaeology of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR under the direction of O.I. Terenozhkin [1].
