Cahal Pech is a Maya palace complex perched on a hill near San Ignacio in Belize's Cayo District [1]. Though most major construction occurred during the Classic period (250-900 AD), excavations have uncovered continuous habitation dating to 1200 BCE during the Early Middle Formative period, making it one of the oldest recognizably Maya sites in Western Belize [1]. The complex served as a palatial residence for an elite Maya family [1].
