Katzenberg Hillfort is a Roman refuge fortress near Mayen, Germany, established in the early 4th century around 300 AD [1]. It was constructed following the collapse of the Roman limes, when Germanic tribes breached the imperial frontier during the so-called Limesfall [1]. The hillfort served as a secure refuge for inhabitants of the Roman vicus located on the site of present-day Mayen, enabling them to escape danger during invasions [1]. This fortified site represents Rome's defensive response to increasing pressure on its northeastern frontier provinces [1].
