Remains of an Iron Age ritual building excavated 2000-2004 at Uppakra, south of Lund in Scania, Sweden -- the largest Iron Age settlement in the Nordic countries, active from 100 BC to the 10th century. The 13 x 6.5 m building was rebuilt six times on the same plan, with a central elevated section on four pillars. Excavators found roughly 200 gold foil figures (gullgubbar) and a remarkable bronze-silver beaker decorated with gold leaf. Scholar Lars Larsson called it "the first Scandinavian building for which the term 'temple' can be justly claimed".
