Tamtoc is a major Huastec archaeological site in the municipality of Tamuin, San Luis Potosi, Mexico, spanning approximately 200 hectares with over 70 structures. Three occupation periods have been identified: initial settlement around 600 BC, urban redesign between 600-900 AD, and peak development from 900-1350 AD marked by intensive construction. The site is notable for the Venus of Tamtoc, a nearly two-metre-tall female sculpture interpreted as a fertility deity, and Monolith 32, a 20-ton stone believed to be a lunar calendar. Distinctively, 90% of burials at Tamtoc are female, and the site reflects a matriarchal social organization unique among Mesoamerican cities.
