A ruined Buddhist stupa and National Heritage Site near Haripur, Pakistan, dating to the 2nd-5th century AD. Its cruciform plan -- the largest surviving example in the Taxila-Gandhara region -- consists of a tall square base with offset projections on all four sides. Excavations begun by John Marshall in 1929 and resumed in 2017 uncovered a 14 m-long reclining Parinirvana Buddha from the 3rd century AD, considered the earliest monumental representation of the Buddha's passing in the world.
