Bryn Cader Faner

Bryn Cader Faner is a Bronze Age round cairn near Talsarnau in the Ardudwy area of Gwynedd, Wales, dating to the late 3rd millennium BC. The cairn measures 8.7 m in diameter with 18 surviving thin jagged stone pillars jutting outward from a low burial mound, originally numbering around 30 pillars each about 2 m long. Described by archaeologist Aubrey Burl as one of the wonders of prehistoric Wales, the monument contained a central cist burial. The site was damaged by 19th-century treasure hunters who dug out the centre, and further harmed before World War II when the British Army used it for gunnery practice, destroying several stones on the east side.
