Cras Round Cairn

Bronze Age round cairn situated on the Cras ridge outcrop in open moorland above Aber, Gwynedd, within the Carneddau range of northern Snowdonia. The stone-built cairn is circular in plan, measuring approximately 9 metres in diameter and standing up to 0.6 metres high. A central hollow contains the remains of a stone cist, a characteristic Early Bronze Age burial feature, though the site has been disturbed by the later construction of a drystone shelter around the depression. The cairn is one of around 150 Bronze Age funerary and ceremonial monuments in the Carneddau, which has one of the densest concentrations of prehistoric burial sites in the UK, dating to roughly 2300-1400 BC. A nearby ring cairn to the north (NPRN 302900) and a second cairn above Ffridd Ddu form part of the same ritual landscape on the slopes of Moel Wnion.
