Barclodiad y Gawres

Barclodiad y Gawres ("The Giantess's Apronful") is a Neolithic cruciform passage grave on the southwestern coast of Anglesey, North Wales, dating to around 3000 BC. The tomb consists of a passage leading to a central chamber with three smaller side chambers branching off. Its most remarkable feature is its decorated stones -- excavations in 1952-53 revealed five stones carved with spirals, zigzags, lozenges, and chevrons, with a sixth discovered in 2001. These carvings show strong connections to passage graves across the Irish Sea in the Boyne Valley, Ireland. After excavation, the chamber was re-roofed with concrete and covered with turf to approximate its original appearance.
