Parciau Hill Fort

Parciau Hill Fort is an inland promontory fort on the Welsh island of Anglesey, standing on the summit of Bryn Ddiol at 95 metres above sea level on a Carboniferous limestone outcrop. The defences include three parallel ramparts on the southwest side, with the inner rampart standing 2 metres above the fort interior. Aerial photography has revealed parch marks of about 28 tightly packed hut circles within the enclosure. Excavations in 1923 by E.N. Baynes uncovered Roman coins from the 3rd-4th centuries AD, suggesting an Iron Age fort that was abandoned around the Roman conquest and later reoccupied when security worsened.
