Medusa Mozaiği

The Medusa Mosaic is a nearly 2,000-year-old floor mosaic in the odeon of the ancient city of Kibyra, in the Golhisar district of Burdur province, southwestern Turkey. Dating to approximately 254 AD, it depicts the mythological Medusa using the rare opus sectile technique with colorful marble pieces, making it one of the few surviving examples of this method worldwide. The odeon, unearthed in 2012 after three years of excavation, also served as the city's bouleterion (council house). The mosaic is seasonally covered for winter protection and reopened each spring. Kibyra was added to the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List in 2016.
