Acropolis of Tlos

Tlos was one of the oldest and most important cities of ancient Lycia, with occupation dating back over 4,000 years. Mentioned as 'Dalawa' in Hittite sources from the 15th century BC, it was one of six cities in the Lycian League. The acropolis sits atop a rocky outcrop covered with Lycian rock-cut tombs, including the Tomb of Bellerophon featuring a relief of the mythological hero riding Pegasus. At its base lie a Hellenistic stadium seating 2,500 and a Roman theater with 34 rows. Tlos was rediscovered by Charles Fellows in 1838.
