Xanthos was a major ancient Lycian city located near present-day Kınık in Antalya Province, Turkey, flourishing from around 1500 to 500 BC on a hill overlooking the River Xanthos.[1] The city is renowned for its exceptional number and quality of monumental tombs, including the celebrated Harpy Tomb and pillar tombs with elaborate Lycian inscriptions.[1] Xanthos, together with the nearby Letoon religious center, was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988, recognizing its outstanding universal value as a center of Lycian civilization and its remarkable funerary architecture.[2]
