Likya Anıt Mezar

A monumental 4th-century BC Lycian sarcophagus in the center of Kas, Turkey, also known as the King's Tomb. The elevated tomb features two majestic lion heads carved on its lid along with intricate depictions of male and female figures, exemplifying elite Lycian funerary art. Crafted from stone with meticulous hand-carved details, the house-shaped sarcophagus reflects the Lycian belief in providing a dwelling for the afterlife, with symbolic window and door designs. Reserved for royalty and high-status families, it remains the most recognizable historical monument in Kas and stands as evidence of the sophistication of Lycian civilization along the Mediterranean coast.
