Llíria, known as Edeta in antiquity, was the capital of the Iberian Edetani people, situated on the Tossal de Sant Miquel hilltop and inhabited from the 6th to 2nd century BC. The site is world-renowned for its ceramics painted with figurative scenes depicting warfare, ritual dances, and hunting that illustrate Iberian aristocratic life. At its height the town covered approximately 20,000 square metres. After the Roman conquest in the 2nd century BC the settlement moved to the Turia river plain, where Augustus granted it municipium status.
